Seriously Sincerely Deceived

“For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.” (1 Corinthians 11:13-14)

An amazing thing – Some people can be made aware of all of this information and yet they still think that Jimmy Swaggart is some sort of mighty man of God. To those I can only say…

Seriously? You still think Jimmy is a great man of God? Let me put it all in a nutshell for you. He married his 14-year-old girl friend when she had just turned 15, without her parents’ permission and when he didn’t even have a job. Jimmy Swaggart consorted with prostitutes and slept with married women for thirty-five years while he was going around preaching, all the while pretending to be a great evangelist for God. He even tried to get two of the prostitutes to get their underage daughters to come to their sex sessions.

According to Debra Murphree and Catherine Kampen, if it had not been for their motherly instincts to protect their underage children, Jimmy Swaggart would have been a pedophile. The majority of Americans favor the death penalty for someone who commits a sex crime against a child. They don’t believe a pedophile is qualified to live. But Swaggarites believe Jimmy is qualified to be their pastor and prophet. Go figure.

Sexual scandals spread like wildfire in his church. Jimmy’s son Donnie has an affair. Donnie’s wife has an affair. Jimmy threatens to murder his daughter-in-law’s lover. The next day he threatens again, saying this time that he will have him murdered. One of Jimmy’s lovers starts getting phone calls, threatening her life, saying they will burn her up in her house if she tells what she and Jimmy have been doing behind her husband’s back.

Jimmy would worm his way into the good graces of old rich ladies and bilk them of all their money, cheating the children out of their inheritance. Those poor elderly people, giving all their riches to Jimmy, thinking they were doing something for God, when in fact they where giving their money to a man who was then having sex with prostitutes. They gave their money to an adulterer, to a phony, to a hypocrite, convinced by him into thinking they were doing something for God.

He was caught with a prostitute in 1988 and did a made-for-tv production of his supposed repentance. He was the star actor complete with tears and background music. He fooled a lot of people. But he kept right on going to prostitutes after that, getting caught again in 1991 and 1995.

He has lived his life in the lap of luxury while begging people for money, supposedly for the kingdom of God, but much of the money goes for Jimmy. He begs money for hungry children and then spends it on himself and his own real estate empire. He had his own private jet, a fleet of Mercedes, a pair of Lincoln Town Cars, several mansions, one of which is a 30-million-dollar piece of real estate. One of Swaggart’s many bathrooms boasts a four-columned Jacuzzi with a gold swan that spouts water into an eight-foot-long tub. And let’s not forget Jimmy’s diamond-studded solid-gold Rolex watch and Frances’ mink coat and their $30,000 per year country club membership.

Jimmy rebelled against his own denomination. Just shortly before getting caught, Jimmy wrote an article about the importance of discipline in the church and that he agrees with ministers going through a time of discipline and rehabilitation before being restored to ministry. But when he gets caught, he rebels and refuses to submit and accept their help. Instead he calls the Assemblies of God a cult and says he doesn’t need them because he hears directly from God. This is arrogant evil pride. He is a defrocked minister, no longer worthy to minister the gospel.

More recently, his print company made sinful posters for nightclubs that have gang signs, devilish pictures and say things like “Liquor! Party! Action!” They made CD covers for rap music bands with filthy words in the music. The CD covers say things like “Includes the hot single – U Nasty!” Jimmy Swaggart Ministries made these. They did this after his supposed revelation from God. See his youth leaders dressing provocatively and posing for pictures in a bar, throwing gang signs, standing indecently, holding wine bottles. For shame. They call it just having fun.

Swaggart couldn’t seem to obey the law. He plagiarized from the Dake’s Bible. He was sued and he lost. The court found Jimmy guilty of plagiarism. He slandered another evangelist and told lies about him. He was sued and lost again. The jury found Jimmy guilty of defamation of character and ordered him to pay ten million dollars. All that money given by hard-working Christians going to waste. And they thought it was going to save souls.

Jimmy’s real estate business partner went to prison. Jimmy was sued over land deals. In 2016 Jimmy stopped a hospital from being built by backing out on his contract to sell the land. The court found him guilty of breach of contract. Jimmy collected money for starving kids and missionaries, but then used it for himself and when employees noticed this, he fired them.

He preaches false doctrines, twists the concept of the Trinity, teaches Mormon heresies, saying God has a body, the Holy Spirit has a body, God’s body is not omnipresent but lives on a planet called heaven in the direction of north.

He claims he alone has the gospel, that he alone is called to evangelize the world, that all the churches are evil except his. He has set himself up as a pope of the one true church, just like the Catholics. He manufactures a doctrine about putting faith in the cross, instead of in Jesus. Nearly every cult-watch group in the country warns people about him and his evil teachings.

He teaches that any Christian who takes communion with real wine is going to hell, basically saying unless you agree with Jimmy and do what he says you aren’t saved. He magnifies himself, saying that it is only his ministry that has stopped God’s judgment from destroying America. All hail to Jimmy Swaggart, the savior of America!

He maligns many good preachers and ministries. His preaching is full of hateful attacks against others. He has gotten many of his followers to be as hateful as he is, getting them to attack others verbally and convincing them to quit their local church and stay home and watch him on TV and send their money to him.

His son Donnie is the co-pastor of Family Worship Center and minister of JSM. Donnie had an affair with a 5-time divorcee in the church. Jimmy’s twisted Message of the Cross is supposed to deliver people from sin, but it couldn’t stop his own son from sinning. Donnie divorced his wife, married the divorcee, then divorced her and remarried his first wife, all the while, Jimmy had Donnie still pastoring at Family Worship Center and preaching on TV and pretending to be a great man of God while he jumps back and forth from one woman’s bed to another. What evil! The acorn did not fall far from the tree.

Swaggarites rave on incessantly about Jimmy Swaggart and his secret new Crossianity revelation, just like the Mormon’s who revere Joseph Smith, and the Christian Scientist Cultists, who adore Mary Baker Eddy, and the Seventh Day Adventists who extol Ellen G. White and the Catholics who practically worship the Pope. All these cultic organizations are centered around one individual. Swaggartism is no different. It’s all about Jimmy.

So let me ask you this: Who do you love more – Jimmy Swaggart or Jesus Christ? Who will you follow? Who will you obey? Jesus said,

Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.  A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them. (Matthew 7:15-20)

Jesus said you can recognize a false teacher by the bad fruit. How much bad fruit does Jimmy Swaggart need to have before you recognize him as a false prophet? If this is not enough wickedness, how much more debauchery must you see before you will open your eyes?

The Bible says to “mark them which cause divisions…avoid them.” (Mark 16:17) Jimmy causes division, in fact, he has divided himself away from the entire Church, saying that he only has the truth. What poppycock! Don’t fall for this nonsense!

To the church in Ephesus Jesus said, “I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false.” (Revelation 2:2)

Jesus commends those who cannot bear those who are evil and who falsely claim to be apostles. This is Swaggart. He false claims to be an apostle, he teaches error and he does evil. And you bear with him wonderfully! How have you become so deceived? Who has bewitched you? Jesus says that you should not bear with those who are evil, yet you do this in complete disregard of the command of the Lord Jesus Christ! So who do you love? Jimmy or Jesus? “If serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose this day whom you will serve…” (Joshua 24:15)

Mary Ann Riley is a former member of Jimmy Swaggart’s church, the Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In 2012 she gave an interview where she said this:

“The last Sunday I was there was Easter Sunday. I walked out and I knew I would never set foot in there again and I felt a complete freedom and a release like I’ve never known before. I’ve never seen in all of my life, so much corruption, hypocrisy, lawlessness, arrogance and indifference and mistreatment of people and indifference towards the hurting and the needy.

There is so much – I could go on unending – the unbelievable things I’ve seen, witnessed, and heard. There’s a great deal of something rotten growing here. I began to see there is a huge population of ravaged people that this ministry has destroyed…all I see is dead and rotting carnage and people that they have abused. I don’t see the lifestyle…the fruit that should be growing out of a properly preached message.”

If you still think Jimmy Swaggart is a great man of God after seeing all of this evidence, and you still intend to disobey the Lord Jesus Christ and follow this divisive false prophet, then there can only be one conclusion, which is that the powerful demonic spirit that spews forth from Swaggart’s mouth has poisoned your soul and deceived your mind such that you can not think on your own.

We come against that evil spirit in the name of Jesus and ask the Holy Spirit to break its power over you. We pray that you will turn off your TV, open your Bible and join a local church grounded in the Holy Scriptures. Let God open your eyes to his truth. Be part of a local church and learn from real pastors and teachers. Be seriously deceived no longer.

  1. JS: King of the crocodile tears. About 55 years ago, when I had my born-again experience in Jesus, I did not own a bible. I then discovered Swaggart’s crusades on TV, and he seemed authentic. I wrote him stating I was a new Christian but did not have a bible, and would he recommend one for me.
A few days later, I received a very nice free bible in the mail, leather-bound with gold page edges. It was called the Jimmy Swaggart Reference Edition. Even as a newbie Christian, I thought it was strange someone would have the gall to not only call it their reference edition but also place the most arrogant, narcissistic picture of himself in the first few pages.
Later on, then I saw on the news he was busted with a prostitute, and it wasn’t the first time. Shortly thereafter, he came on TV in front of his members and pretended to repent in front of God and family. It was strange since he seemed to be sobbing, yet no tears. Now, many years later, he still does the same thing, and even his son and grandson have learned the technique.
I think he and his “church” are stuck in false doctrines because he has never repented of his sins, many of which you have documented here. Through their deceptive practices, they still manage to sucker people out of $3-4 million dollars a month. Surely they have their reward now, but perhaps not in eternity.
